OUR PROGRAM

Early Learning CenterEarly Learning CenterEarly Learning Center

The St. John’s Early Learning Center is a developmental preschool serving children between the ages of 2 and 6 years which affirms the individuality of children and provides an emotionally safe environment in which children can learn and socialize. It is our belief that children grow and learn when they are free to observe, explore and actively engage in activities at their own developmental levels and pace. Our program provides a warm and nurturing environment in which children can thrive. Each child is treated as an individual, respecting their needs, learning styles and personalities. Our rich thematic curriculum addresses the intellectual, emotional, social and physical needs of young children. Since we acknowledge the importance of play, our day combines free-play time, group activities and discussions to allow the children to practice the social readiness skills necessary to begin Kindergarten with a positive self-image. We encourage children’s natural curiosity and foster a healthy respect for themselves, for others and for their surroundings.

Preschool classes include yoga, science, Spanish and music enrichment as part of the curriculum. Our curriculum adheres to the educational standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In addition to our exceptional equipment and sun-filled classrooms, ELC offers outdoor play in a newly expanded playground, featuring a tricycle path each day that weather permits.

Kindergarten Enrichment

In our program, we will have circle time, where every student will be actively involved in the class news, calendar and weather as well as share books and activities pertaining to our current theme. We will become authors, poets, investigators and artists as we experience many new things. While complementing the district’s kindergarten curriculum, our program will give children an opportunity to develop and enhance their pre-reading skills, build their phonemic awareness, strengthen their letter and sound recognition, develop mathematical reasoning and cause and effect as well as enhance motor and verbal skills. The program for each unit will be diverse, incorporating literature, language, math, science and art while utilizing the developmental approach to education that is the signature philosophy of St. John’s ELC. These classes will be fun, creative and relaxed there by nurturing your child’s love for learning and fostering their confidence and self-esteem.
